Mission

To organize professional development activities for researchers and educators working in Neuroscience.
To provide tools that facilitate: research on Neuroscience, the formation of new research groups in the field, and the repatriation of scientists.
To foster the advancement of knowledge in the field of Neuroscience by promoting contact among scientists from different regions of Argentina and Latin America and with varied backgrounds and interests. The advancement of brain and nervous system research in Argentina is a key pillar for the construction of a high-quality, critical mass to generate basic and applied knowledge in the field of Medicine.
To strengthen the international projection of Argentine Neuroscience.
To promote Neuroscience education by providing the necessary tools to educators.
To disseminate -among the general public- the most recent scientific findings as well as their implications with respect to basic science, clinical medicine and ethics.
To strengthen the concept of what a Scientific Society is by actively working towards the achievement of national scientific policies and by joining forces with other Societies that nucleate different fields of science in Argentina.

Goals

To facilitate the presentation and discussion of scientific papers. To this end, the SAN holds not only annual meetings, which have been held uninterruptedly since the SAN´s creation in 1986 [see SAN History], but also symposia on specific high-impact topics on Neuroscience in Argentina.
To promote Neuroscience teaching and research in Argentina. To this end, the SAN holds courses within the context of its annual meetings as well as other educational activities which are carried out in different cities in Argentina.
To promote the international projection of Argentine Neuroscience. At present, there are three fundamental pillars upon which the SAN´s links with international science rest. One of such pillars is the Federation of Latin American and Caribbean Neuroscience Societies -of which the SAN is part-, which organizes congresses every three years with the participation of neuroscientists from Latin America, Europe and the United States. The second pillar is the Society for Neuroscience (SfN). with which the SAN has made strong and solid links, one of which is the SfN´s “Buenos Aires, Argentina Chapter”. This chapter, which represents Argentine Neuroscience, was created in 2009, during the presidency of Dr. Cecilia Bouzat. The third pillar is the (IBRO-LARC).
To open and maintain a channel of communication between scientific societies and authorities of science and technology. To this end, the SAN has promoted the creation of an Argentine Network of Bioscience Societies whose aim is to encourage and implement policies for the improvement of the conditions and development of scientific research.
To facilitate communication between scientists and Neuroscience work. To this end, the SAN plans to implement a census focused on Neuroscience in Argentina to map the facilities and capacities available in this field. In line with this, further actions are currently being taken through SAN website to enable the exchange of information and reagents available in Argentina.
To maintain a fluent communication with its members, encouraging their participation in the elaboration of new proposals for the continuous growth of the regional scientific community. To this end, the SAN: i) issues a monthly bulletin with material derived not only from the SAN but also from the neuroscientific community in general; ii) provides a communication channel to and from SAN officers for members and non-members through its web page; and iii) forms special committees with SAN members to work on specific topics. SAN web page is intended to become a source of information, communication and consultation for the regional scientific community.
To actively participate in neuroscience outreach activities, an initiative that is currently beginning and which ranges from the dissemination of the latest findings in Neuroscience to the media as well as to primary and secondary schools to the organization of courses for journalists.
