Postdoctoral Position Available – University of Heidelberg

Prof. Jan Siemens ⎜ University of Heidelberg ⎜ Department of Pharmacology ⎜ Im Neuenheimer Feld 366 ⎜ 69120 Heidelberg ⎜ Germany

We are looking for a postdoctoral candidate with an interest in thermal biology. Prior experience using electrophysiological recording techniques would be an asset, in particular brain slice recordings.

The ability to regulate body temperature is essential to maintain homeostasis. Even slight deviations from 37°Celsius can affect a wide range of biological processes. The central thermostat that regulates body temperature has been found to reside in the preoptic area and the anterior part of the hypothalamus. Surprisingly, very little is known about the neuronal networks and molecular mechanisms orchestrating body temperature regulation. Using the mouse as a model system we are interested in understanding central and peripheral mechanisms that govern thermal homeostasis.
